About Us
We started Balanced Chronicles because we got tired of photography advice that felt like it came from a textbook. You know the type — sterile, overly technical, missing the actual human side of making images. So we built this place as a home for photographers who want to improve without the pretension. Whether you're shooting on your phone or juggling three cameras, we're here to break down what actually works. Our tips come from years of shooting weddings, portraits, landscapes, and everything in between. We make mistakes. We learn. And we share that mess with you because that's how real growth happens.
Over time, we’ve built a reputation for reliability, quality, and clear communication. We treat each project as a partnership and aim for outcomes that last.
Meet Our Team
The people behind Balanced Chronicles
We’re a team that values ownership, clarity, and growth. We celebrate wins, learn fast, and keep client outcomes at the center.
Maya Petrov
Founder & Lead Photographer
Maya's shot everything from small weddings in Prague to commercial campaigns across Europe. She's obsessed with available light and believes most photographers use way too much flash. Coffee enthusiast. Terrible at social media.
Josef Novotný
Portrait Specialist & Writing Lead
Josef turned his obsession with human connection into portrait work that makes people uncomfortable — in the best way. He writes most of our technical breakdowns and explains aperture better than anyone we know.
Lenka Svobodová
Landscape & Technique Editor
She's hiked to ridiculous places at 4am for the light. Lenka manages our workshop calendar and catches all our technical mistakes before they go live. Patience of a saint. Terrible sense of humor.
Our Story
Balanced Chronicles started in 2016 when three of us were sitting around complaining about terrible online photography tutorials. We'd spent years learning through trial, error, and plenty of expensive mistakes. The idea hit us: why not document the actual process? Not the highlight reel. The real work. We launched with a handful of articles and honestly didn't know if anyone would care. Turns out, photographers were hungry for genuine, conversational guidance. Twelve years later, we've worked with thousands of photographers across 34 countries. We're still just three people who love photography and love helping others see better.

Our Mission & Our Vision
Our Mission
Teach photographers that great images come from understanding light, composition, and intention — not just expensive gear. We strip away the gatekeeping and technical jargon. Our job's simple: give you practical, honest guidance you can use today. No fluff. No false promises about shortcuts.
Our Vision
A world where photographers trust their instincts and stop chasing trends. Where technical skill meets creative vision. We imagine a community that celebrates growth over perfection, curiosity over gear specs. Where every photographer — beginner or seasoned — feels encouraged to develop their own voice.
Our Core Values
The principles that guide everything we do
Honesty Over Polish
We'll tell you when something doesn't work. We share our failures because they teach more than our wins ever could. Authenticity builds trust, and that's everything to us.
Accessibility First
Great photography isn't reserved for people with deep pockets. We explain concepts in plain language. No gatekeeping. No pretentious jargon that makes newcomers feel stupid.
Light Is Everything
Seriously. We obsess over light. It's the foundation of every good image. Master light and everything else clicks into place — composition, mood, storytelling, all of it.
Your Voice Matters
Photography's a conversation with your audience. We help you develop a style that feels true to you, not something borrowed from Instagram trends or famous photographers.
